THE DEVOURER

Sayuri is capable of manipulating her spiritual energy in such a way that it conjures up a darkness so pure it appears as a void that was virtually ripped out of reality. Seeping from the pores in her skin, this darkness billows out to cover a chosen territory. The woman may simply shroud her form in the blackness or she may blanket a wide area and drown all its occupants in the shadow. Refraction and absorption are her greatest assets within the cloud. Sayuri is able to either redirect or outright devour the light or sound waves passing through her domain and can do so with such finesse that she does not hinder her own sight and hearing in the process. Moreover, this darkness is not simply reduced to a special room she can conjure up on a whim. By channelling her spiritual energy through the cloud, Sayuri is able to manipulate its general shape and thus cause the shadow to do her bidding.

Her territory extends out twenty meters in all directions, within this range she can adjust the volume of sounds and the intensity of light at the cost of a casual amount of energy per instance. Constructs made from the darkness range in cost depending upon their complexity. Currently, the most complex things Sayuri can create are basic armaments (swords, shields, etc.) at an effort worth of energy. Her constructs are capable of punching through strong wood.

From a very young age, Sayuri has meticulously studied the sciences of acupuncture. This is a style of medicine revolving around the stimulation of certain points along the epidermis called ‘acupoints’. By piercing these points with a thin, solid, metallic needle one is able to cause or correct imbalances in the flow of energy within a person. With this, Sayuri is able to achieve various effects. She is capable of either relieving, intensifying, or inducing typical pain or nausea, depending on the pierced area. She may relax muscle tension to provide a different type of relief, or strain the muscles and lock them in place effectively immobilizing the target. However, these effects require immaculate accuracy in the placement of the needles. Sayuri can only achieve the desired results by working on an enemy already arrested or a voluntarily stationary individual. Either way, she is always equipped with a number of throwing needles strapped to her thighs.

Another aspect of her studies is the science of plant biology. Botanical research has a wide breadth of applications from providing staple foods to plant propagation to genetic modification. Sayuri specializes in cultivating and crossbreeding exotic species of plants. The wealthy crime lord has set up a laboratory completely devoted to raising the plants she’s acquired. Unfortunately, because of her current standing with the Spirit World, she makes it a point never to venture to that realm and is thus unable to acquire the flora she’s grown accustomed to raising throughout her life. She’s set out to start her arsenal anew. Sayuri seeks to hunt, chronicle, and cultivate the crème de la crème of Human / Demon World florae.

The animal sciences encompass a wide array of aspects. Sayuri focuses on animal husbandry and breeding. Much like with her plants, the woman has a massive, specialized room devoted to the management and care of her acquired animals. From this space, her livestock is selectively bred for their most desirable traits. Given Sayuri’s line of work, these traits, more often than not, are their particular brands of venom. Once again, given her standing within the Spirit World, she finds herself reluctant to acquire the fauna she’s been breeding for most of her life. In order to replenish her inventory, Sayuri seeks to hunt, tame, and milk the choicest creatures among Human / Demon World wildlife.

Sayuri has spent over a decade living in the Chinese underworld. There are countless martial arts masters filling in the ranks. The higher ups demanded she make use of her brothers’ talents whilst bestowing the knowledge she’s accumulated over the years to her brethren in return. From the options presented, Sayuri has taken a liking to the smooth flowing nature of Bàguà Zhăng, with a special infatuation for the Yin style. The practice of circle walking is integral to the fighting style. Practitioners circle the enemy in various low forms, changing directions as they execute their attacks. The woman’s speed and fluidity allows her to combine evasive manoeuvres with counters seamlessly.

Sayuri is able to manipulate the general shape of her darkness. Superficially, she can create crude designs in the blackness. However, her main goal is generating protrusions from the cloud to lash out at enemies. Currently, from the edges of her cloud, she can only produce simple spikes designed to perforate targets or arms and hands tasked with grasping at whatever she desires.

Follows the same guidelines as the ceiling set for her ability.

As a skilled assassin, Sayuri’s keen perception has always been her primary weapon. Far superior to the bulk of spirits at her rank, the woman practically gorges upon information found in even the subtlest of details. Her astuteness in picking up cues both in battle and in her social life is spectacular. However, her greatest achievement is her surgical precision and aim. Furthermore, she can trace, track, and predict the trajectories of both her weapons and those thrown at her. Simply put, Sayuri is a projectile specialist.

With a mix of natural talent and extra mind being paid to her limber and agile body during her training, Sayuri now boasts a speed superior to the average spirit. Her nimbleness serves her given martial arts style perfectly. Her movements are swift and fluid, aimed to avoid enemy strikes outright or reduce devastating, direct hits into mere glancing blows. Yet, despite how rapidly she may move, her every action is meticulously calculated. Sayuri’s footwork is characterized by tremendous fastidiousness.

As a warrior this spirit does put in a deal of effort in training her physical body, however, brute strength was never her specialty. Her strength, though substantial in comparison to most, is something to be expecting from spirits of her rank. With a rather lithe build, she is not built to dominate her enemies through sheer destructive force. Thankfully, given her chosen style of combat, this isn’t an area she absolutely requires.

Sayuri’s stamina is nothing noteworthy. Her physical reserves aren’t terrible, mind you, but they don’t stand out when compared to her peers. She can take a decent beating, but nothing substantial. To skirt around this issue, she pays great mind to her surrounds and has developed a style of combat that keeps her out of harm’s way as much as possible. That said, she is a very calculative person and has been known to purposefully open herself up to attack when it is determined that the damage received would be worth the sacrifice and a substantial counter attack can be made.

This is another particular area of her training that has been relatively neglected. Much like her physical reserves, Sayuri’s spiritual well is no deeper that of the average spirit of her rank. Her Reiki holds a dark blue hue to the point it’s almost indistinguishable from pure black. The young woman does well to use only as much energy as is required so as to not deplete her reserves too quickly.
